Private equity players back in the game
The last couple of years have seen jumbo leverage buyout deals and the increasing influence of private equity groups. Following the fall out from the credit crunch, lending banks were left with substantial debt overhangs and the liquidity available to finance such highly leveraged deals dried up. Satellite bankers have since widely predicted that 2008 is unlikely to see any transformational LBO transactions.

Q&A with Jassem Al Zaabi, CEO of Yahsat
Yahsat is the newest fixed-service satellite operator to make its entry into the Middle Eastern market. Backed by the Abu Dhabi state investment group Mubadala, Yahsat will launch two satellites, which are being jointly constructed by EADS Astrium and Thales Alenia Space, at the end of 2010 and beginning of 2011.
